After opening the lockdown to prevent the Pandemic in Nepal, I had no other journey apart from village to town and from town to village.

Wednesday, March 31, 2021, Kalinchowk Tour
It rained lightly in Kathmandu today and mostly all over Nepal. When it rains in winter, it snows in the highlands. It didn't mean that it would snow, but I thought of going to the Kalinchwok tour thinking that the weather would be clear. Because for many days, the weather looked very bad with dust and smoke. This kind of weather is frustrating for travel photographers.

Kalinchowk is a sacred place located at an altitude of 3842 m, 22 km north of Charikot in the Dolakha district. In the evening, I asked my cousin to go on the Kalinchowk tour the next day. As he is a school teacher, he replied that he would go to the Kalinchowk tour after finishing some classes tomorrow. It was decided to go on the Kalinchowk tour but we didn't know anything about the travel itinerary. Many travel agencies from Kathmandu offer Kathmandu to Kuri village tours in packages. But we like to travel independently, we didn't want to travel limited by the rules of the package.

Thursday, April 1, 2021, Kathmandu to Kuri village
Wherever there is a problem, there is a solution, around 11 o'clock, we took a local bus from Koteshwar to Charikot. Even if it is not a comfortable journey, the local bus fare is a little less and it is easily available in Nepal. After a tedious local bus journey, we reached Charikot at around 5 o'clock. Charikot is the district headquarters of Dolakha, 134 km from Kathmandu, at an altitude of 1554 meters.

We had no plans to either stay in Charikot or continue the journey. Passengers who came with us on the bus from Kathmandu were waiting for the vehicle to go to Kuri village in Charikot. We asked them if there was room for two, but they said they would not go to Kuri village today.  While inquiring, the local bus would go to Kuri village only in the morning and reserve pickup at other times. We had to reserve a pickup or we would have to stay in Charikot and catch a local bus tomorrow morning. The driver said that other passengers could not be found as it was late and only two of us had to reserve a pickup. Kuri village, only 21 kilometers away from Charikot, took about two hours due to the unpaved road.

We ordered lunch at Lamosangu but we didn't eat anything as the bus didn't wait. We continued our journey after buying some water, bread, and juice in Deurali. Uphill and unpaved road, our pickup was rushing towards Kuri Village. When we were halfway there, it rained heavily. Heavy rain and fog made it difficult for the driver to drive the pickup.

With our journey, the altitude was increasing and hail was falling instead of rain. The road was slippery due to hail and rain. A van was unable to drive on the road due to slippery roads. Passengers were walking as it was close to Kuri village. As it was getting late and we didn't know much about Kuri, we decided to stay at the hotel where the driver had taken us. Due to the heavy rain, the electricity service in Kuri Village was disrupted, otherwise, Kuri Village would have looked very beautiful, said Hotel Onener. The Kuri Village, which is only full on Friday, was empty on Thursday. The hotel charged us Rs.1000 per person in package. The convenience of the package was as follows. Welcome drinks, Dalbhat chicken vegetables, and sharing room. Free drinking boiled water and free electricity to charge the mobile. It was raining outside and there were no guests in the hotel so the hotel owner set fire to a small pot inside. On Friday, the hotel is full of guests and there will be DJ music, dancing, and a campfire outside. We went to bed early that night after dinner because it was so cold.

Today's journey from Kathmandu to Kuri ended with a sweet dream and a wish for a beautiful morning tomorrow. The journey of the second day will be described on another page. Please click here to read.
